red moon over lisbon
i didn't manage to get a picture of it, but the moon last night was dark red. does anyone know why this happens? i asked a bartender and he laughed at me. i'm pretty sure he laughed because he didn't know. right?
i got poop on my arm while taking the picture on the left, but i still think it was worth it.

"a rising full moon generally looks orange. The orange color is an atmospheric effect. It's caused by the fact that, when the moon is near the horizon, we're looking at it through a greater-than-usual thickness of atmosphere. The atmosphere scatters the blue part of moonlight (which is really just sunlight, after all, reflected from the moon's surface). But it lets the reddish part of the light travel a straighter path to our eyes. And thus the rising moon looks orange." http://www.earthsky.com/Features/Skywatching/swg990331-n.html

Wow. Definitely didn't know that. Thanks Josh and Elise.
Also, poop on the arm is better than poop in the eye.

thanks elise. one might think that someone with a degree in physics would be able to figure that out. and then one might remember that the degree came from wesleyan university... it is amazing how stupid i become once you strip me of my 24-hour internet access.

i don't care what you say, poop on your arm is never good. when i was in the sixth grade a seagull pooed on my shoulder while i was out on the playground. all the other kids ran away from me, screaming. i remain scarred to this day.
